Employee Case Studies - Quality and Inspection
Margaret – Mending Supervisor – Taylor & Lodge
When did you start working at Bulmer & Lumb & what attracted you to the company?
I started working at Taylor & Lodge in 1981 as a Textile Mender. This involved inspecting, checking and correcting any faults in the cloth once it had been woven. It is very skilled work which requires a lot of patience and a good eye for detail.
I had been working as an Outmender (a stand alone mender not employed by any one company) prior to joining the company and was then offered part time work as an employee.
What does your current role involve?
I am now Mending Supervisor and oversee all cloth passing through the mending department. In addition I am also responsible for performing the final quality inspection on all cloth after it has returned from finishing and before it is sent to the customer.
What do you enjoy most about working at Bulmer & Lumb?
I enjoy the variety of work and the daily challenges that the job throws at you; as well as the company of my colleagues, as it is a very friendly place to work.
If you weren't working at Bulmer & Lumb what would your dream job be?
If I weren’t working in my current job, then my dream job would be a hairdresser.
